The Industry List
Commercial bungee jumping began in the mid-1980s and is today practiced in roughly 60 countries around the world, with close to 200 companies involved directly in operations, design, and manufacturing, and many other entities involved in the supply chain industry.
During the development of ASTM 62522, the IBA compiled a list of locations, countries, companies, and structures from which bungee jumping is practiced. This list has allowed the IBA to have a finger on the pulse of what is happening in the industry in order to ensure standards can meet the demand of the industry.
The primary methodology for data gathering was using different online resources along with the IBA members’ already existing knowledge base to help in navigating online language barriers. Leveraging social media also came as an important resource, as some companies use FB or IG as their primary company information listings, as opposed to traditional websites.
Criteria to make the list
1- Companies and sites must offer bungee jumping as one of their activities.
2- Companies and sites must have active bookable bungee jumping activities or have shown evidence of conducting jumping within the last calendar year.
3- Companies with no fixed permanent site, but that still do offer jumping activities or services, were included on the list under the category of "temporary".
Misconceptions and exclusions from the list
1- Rope jumping (many companies are offering this, and in Europe, it is in many cases marketed as bungee jumping, but those companies did not make the list)
2- Swings
3- Slingshots, Ejection Seats, Catapults
4- Bungee trampolines, horizontal bungee, or bungee trainers
5- Decelerator jumps
6- Former bungee sites or companies that are no longer practicing as of 2025.
